The time my Himalayan training partner needed to be carried.
Hey Trail Friends,
I love a good plan. I’m all about them.
But—
Ya know how sometimes you make one and it just doesn’t pan out?
Like, I was planning on posting my Rainier story this week. But then—life got loud.
Real loud.
So I took a day. To sit on a park bench. Nestled in a quiet park under the canopy of trees. Just me and Fitz.
I thought I might, perhaps, find enlightenment. Like Eckhart Tolle.
I didn’t.
But I did feel 20 pounds lighter.
Anyway, I thought I’d keep it light this week and share one of my favorite pictures of Fitz Roy. He was helping me train for a Himalayan expedition back in the day.
He was only four months old at the time. And…he got a little tired on our stair repeats, so he let me carry him!
I doubt his 72 pound adult dog bootie would let me carry him now. But I thought you might enjoy this memory of mine.
Now, it’s your turn.
Got a favorite hiking memory? One with your fur baby? Would love to get a reply back and we can reminisce together.
Whether you’re needing a little Wild or Calm this week—spend some time in nature. It helps.
Okay. Talk later. Back to working on the Rainier story…
Haley + Fitz Roy

Oh! I can’t put a picture in the comments. But. I was running a Trekking company in Tibet and found a mastiff puppy no one wanted- he had bi coloured eyes and they thought he had bad luck. So I bought him and he came trekking with us for a season or two! He ended up in my backpack many times until he got huge! Thanks for reminding me of Bruno.
I walked a little too far with my hound on the weekend. She loved this carry and gave me a few licks on the ear on the way.
