Oh! I can’t put a picture in the comments. But. I was running a Trekking company in Tibet and found a mastiff puppy no one wanted- he had bi coloured eyes and they thought he had bad luck. So I bought him and he came trekking with us for a season or two! He ended up in my backpack many times until he got huge! Thanks for reminding me of Bruno.
That’s a cute pup!!!! My doodle and I are in training for an alps hut to hut this summer . Thankfully she’s only 20 lbs if I have to carry her but you reminded me to buy an emergency sling

it took me 5 years to find a route where the actual mountain huts in the alps accept dogs inside. most make you put them downstairs in a ski room...that's not happening with my little girl.
We camped and hiked at Fort Mountain State Oark - which is a fabulous location, no cell service, just mountains. My Rhodesian ridgeback scared off a black bear from our campsite. She broke her tether, charged the bear, and the bear was so startled it fell down, rolled a bit down the hill, and ran away. Like a little black bear Winnie the Oooh. (My letter after O key isn’t working without autocorrect😳). Hazel didn’t chase (win for me), and the bear hopefully learned a safety lesson because it was too close in to human territory. And Hazel has felt super good about herself ever since. You can’t tell her anything in the forest except that she’s probably the queen now.
My sweet adventure dog died suddenly of acute leukemia last October. Ok so that's not a good memory, but at least I have 9 years of incredible hikes with her. She was the best!
